KoolSpan Achieves FIPS 140-2 Validation
Viewed as the benchmark certification for government and many private industry organizations, FIPS certification validates KoolSpan’s core technology and secure voice applications.
Bethesda, Md., July 21, 2010 – KoolSpan, Inc., developer of the TrustChip® family of secure connectivity solutions that seamlessly unite mission-critical network devices, today announced its KoolSpan TrustChip Developer Kit (TDK) Cryptographic Library has achieved Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 validation (Cert. #1372) by the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology. The certification validates KoolSpan’s core technology and certifies the company’s secure voice applications. FIPS certification is viewed widely as the benchmark standard for the government and many enterprise organizations.
KoolSpan’s TrustChip, an industry first, is a hardened microSD crypto card built for security. Complete with a 32-bit processor at its core, it is a self-contained security computer. TrustChip-secured applications harness the chip’s power via the TrustChip Developer Kit (TDK). Designed to make use of industry standard SD memory slots, TrustChips can be used on smartphones, computers and other devices. KoolSpan TrustChips feature a streamlined device-to-device architecture, providing host devices advanced authentication and encryption capabilities.
“We are pleased to achieve FIPS validation, an important recognition of KoolSpan’s continuous commitment to meet and exceed the most stringent certifications and standards,” said KoolSpan Vice President of Engineering, Bill Supernor.
Federal Information Processing Standards are developed by the federal government for use primarily by government agencies and contractors. FIPS 140-2 covers the many aspects of a cryptographic module’s secure design and implementation.
KoolSpan technology has been rigorously tested and reviewed by top security research organizations in the United States government, as well as many industry trade publications. KoolSpan is an Information Security Magazine/TechTarget Readers Choice Award winner for Best Emerging Technology, a category winner of the SC Award for Best Multi-Factor Authentication technology, and was featured by the editors of Network World as one of the Top Ten “Security Companies to Watch.”
