KoolSpan Acquires Secure Mobile Applications Suite and Engineering Team From SRA International, Inc.

Agreement Allows Maker of the TrustChip® Mobile Security Solution to Own Core Technologies to Protect Voice and Text Communications at the Highest Level; SRA Remains a Reseller of KoolSpan Products

Bethesda, MD (December 20, 2011)

KoolSpan, Inc., developer of the TrustChip® family of plug-in mobile security solutions, today announced the acquisition of the secure mobile applications suite and engineering team from SRA International, Inc., a leading provider of technology and strategic consulting services and solutions to government organizations. Acquiring these products and the team behind them enables KoolSpan to own all core components of the hardware-based TrustChip® solution that protects voice and text communications from security threats.

“We are convinced that KoolSpan will continue to develop the industry leading features that have established OVV and OVM as market leaders and will accelerate their adoption on a global scale.”
“SRA and KoolSpan have worked together over the last several years to develop the next generation of secure mobile applications,” said KoolSpan CEO Gregg Smith. “This acquisition will allow KoolSpan to own the technology behind the security solution for the two most fundamental mobile applications – voice and text. For our customers and partners we now can market a turnkey FIPS-140-2 compliant mobile solution.”

TrustChip differs from other mobile security solutions in that it is hardware-based – anchored by chip in the form factor of a microSD card that slides into smart phones and makes hacking of voice calls and text messages virtually impossible. As worldwide mobile threats increase, the TrustChip provides a solution for government and enterprise to create TrustGroups, ensuring secure voice and text messaging between any set of users or devices.

As part of the acquisition, a core engineering team from SRA has joined KoolSpan. KoolSpan also owns several pending patents related to the acquired technology.

“We applaud KoolSpan for its determination in building a world class, hardware-anchored solution to the threat of mobile voice and text hacking worldwide,” said Rick Geritz, chairman of CyberMaryland, which brings together federal, state and local government, private businesses, academia, and workforce to address challenges to the security of our nation’s digital infrastructure. “We are proud to call KoolSpan a Maryland company and believe the company’s TrustChip solution has tremendous current and future market potential.”

SRA developed the components of its secure mobile applications suite – One Vault Voice™ (OVV) and One Vault Messenger® (OVM) by integrating KoolSpan’s TrustChip and TDK technology. OVV and OVM are secure voice and text message applications working on commercial off-the-shelf devices including the Blackberry® and Android® platforms with iPhone® coming in 2012. Securing mobile applications is priority one in KoolSpan’s strategy and is the entry point for securing other industry specific mobile applications and appliances.

SRA Senior Vice President Pat Burke said, “We are convinced that KoolSpan will continue to develop the industry leading features that have established OVV and OVM as market leaders and will accelerate their adoption on a global scale.”

SRA will remain a reseller of all KoolSpan products. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
