Maryland Ranked #1 in The Nation for Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Lately there has been a lot of innovation news here in Maryland. Last week, I participated in Startup Maryland’s Pitch Across Maryland tour, an event for business startups held at UMBC’s bwtech. Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley attended the event and even created his own mock pitch video for InvestMaryland. O’Malley talked about Maryland’s great resources for business and how the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ranked Maryland #1 in the nation for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Mike Binko, co-chair for Startup Maryland talked to The Daily Record last week about the success of the tour and Gov. O’Malley spoke about Maryland’s success in innovation. It was a great event to be a part of, especially as a part of bwtech.

Pitch Across America is a two and a half week bus tour across Maryland for local innovators and entrepreneurs. The bus will visit incubators, like UMBC’s bwtech, economic development agencies, universities and landmarks. At each stop there are rallies to share information about the different resources in Maryland for entrepreneurs and start-up businesses. Business leaders from around the state visit each stop too, sharing advice with fellow leaders. The tour started on Sept. 11 and will go until Sept. 28 with the Last Stop celebration.

If you’re interested in attending one of the Startup Maryland events, I suggest going to the Last Stop celebration. There will be live music, an opportunity to enter the Pitch Across America contest, speakers and networking opportunities with other business leaders. The last stop is a daylong event at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Hope to see you there!
