KoolSpan Releases TrustText for Android Devices
Mobile Security Solution Provides Hardware-Anchored Protection for SMS Communications
Bethesda, MD. – June 12, 2012
KoolSpan Inc., developer of the TrustChip® family of plug-in mobile security solutions, today announced availability of the TrustText secure, encrypted Short Message Service (SMS) transmissions (text messages) solution for the Android platform. TrustText for Android is a new addition to KoolSpan’s TrustChip suite of encryption applications available for smartphones.
“With the increasing threat of electronic eavesdropping, many organizations are concerned that sensitive information might be compromised”
TrustText is a discreet, affordable, easy-to-install secure texting solution. TrustText uses a tamper-resistant removable microSD encryption chip, called the TrustChip and provides global enterprise and government agencies the ability to defend against unwanted surveillance and cyber hacking. Combined with TrustCall, which encrypts voice communication, TrustChip offers a secure communication environment for Android users.
With the TrustChip in place, the TrustText application integrates with the smartphone’s address book and allows users to easily send mutually authenticated and fully encrypted texts. Without user action, the application automatically accesses the TrustChip’s security services and provides a security status when calling another secure smartphone. A compliment to the smartphone’s normal operation, the application remains idle when texts are sent to non-secure phones.
TrustText for Android is based on commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) technology that allows users to continue using their current Android phone and receive the benefits of a hardware-based security solution. KoolSpan’s secure texting solution for Android is vendor and carrier neutral so it can be deployed across all networks and internationally.
“With the increasing threat of electronic eavesdropping, many organizations are concerned that sensitive information might be compromised,” said KoolSpan CTO Bill Supernor. “With TrustText for Android, these organizations can now send information between devices securely, without fear of interception or malicious use. As government agencies and global enterprise customers begin to evaluate “Bring Your Own Device” polices, the need for an Android security solution will be crucial.”
TrustText has been available on the Blackberry platform for over a year and now offers the same level of security to Android users. KoolSpan is currently developing an iPhone solution that will be available by late 2012.
