KoolSpan U: Weekly Word Wednesday – Cyber Espionage

In this day and age, our electronic devices are a treasure chest of information. Cyber espionage is the act of obtaining said private information without permission from the rightful owner in order to gain some personal, economic or military advantage.

Most hackers obtain this data through the deployment of viruses and malicious software such as Trojan horses and spyware, to observe and acquire information and access to the databases of governments and large enterprises. The SANS Institute ranked cyber espionage as a top 3 top cyber menace and claims that the frequency of cyber espionage for economic advantage will continue to increase as many nations and multinational corporations use the stolen data to gain an edge in multinational deals. However, it’s important to note that many amateur hackers are also committing cyber espionage to gain access to financial information and passwords of individuals. Thus, it is increasingly important for everyone, including individuals and corporations, to protect their data and networks with encryption products such as KoolSpan’s TrustChip and TrustCenter.
